THE PLASTIC RESIN PROJECT:
A buddy of mine, Eric Fisher, is pretty well known in the plastics community for delivering some of the highest quality life-sized horror film busts - and taught me all of what I know about this medium. I'll be showing off some of his work here in the near future, but If you love Hellraiser, you probably already know who he is.
I start by sculpting each piece out of Sculpty. I then make a two or three part mold out of special silicone using the original sculpt as a negative-space filler. Once all the molds have dried, I remove the sculpt. I secure the mold, and pour a two-part liquid plastic resin into the molds. About a minuite later... presto! I remove the flash, sand the seams, and prime. I then paint each one by hand and finish with a protective top-coat.
These are my silicone molds along with several unfinished plastic resin heads.
Below are some of what the finished products looked like. As you can see, I'm a big Lego Star Wars fan. What a perfect combination... Lego ...Star Wars. Yes, I'm a big dork!
