THE HOVERCRAFT PROJECT (on hiatus):

   I started building this beast in 2002 I think. It's a compressed foam, wood, and fiberglass composite hull presently. I worked on it for about a year off and on, and met a girl. It hasn't moved from the garage since. I purchased the blueprints from http://www.hovercraft.com. I planned on using a new Yanmar V-Twin diesel prototype engine from work to power the thing. A diesel engine has yet to be used on a 'racing' craft of this size, mainly because a diesel typically weighs too much. However, Yanmar developed an engine that weighs only 15lbs more than the 20hp gasoline versions. It would've yielded superior torque over the gasoline, but this project will probably not get finished any time soon.
